One doesn’t expect much from The New Republic, and not a word here condemning Carlson’s shrill incitement of war against China, though good in describing what a sleazeball he really is in working to get pro-war Republicans elected. But this is telling, of more than one Republican/New Right, “writer and journalist,” besides Carlson:

Carlson is very good at sniffing out what the Republican Party is and then positioning himself as one of its thought leaders—while an overrated writer and journalist, he has been, nevertheless, both a very good self-promoter and someone more than willing to shift his own stances to advance his career.”
